Philip “Flip” Clifford, MD, AAHKS, AAOS
Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon
Born in New Jersey, from Vermont natives, Dr. Clifford went to middle and high school in the Tampa Bay area. He attended Davidson College in North Carolina, and then Medical School at the University of Florida. He completed his orthopedic residency at Duke University in Durham, NC and then added an additional year of fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery (hip and knee replacement surgery). He then practiced in Durham for the last 17 years.
His special interest in outpatient joint replacement led him to Tampa where he could open a center with the plan to deliver the best of care to patients needing hip and knee replacement. As founder and director, Dr. Philip Clifford has spent over five years developing anesthetic and surgical protocols for outpatient joint replacement that has led to nearly all of his patients being candidates for outpatient surgery provided their general health is stable and medically well managed.

Paulina “Mattie” Collier PA-C
Physician Assistant Director
Born in Hackensack, NJ, Mattie was raised in Pittsburgh, moved to Morgantown, WV where she attended high school and was a standout soccer goalie. She attended James Madison University and then completed her physician assistant training at Long Island University.
She began her career at the Hartzband Clinic in New Jersey where she assisted in the selection of patients for outpatient joint replacement surgery. She then worked in the St. Luke’s health system in New York City.
She teamed up with Dr. Clifford at Triangle Orthopedics in Durham and encouraged him to start performing outpatient replacements. She eventually founded her own company providing operative PA assistance in the Raleigh/Durham area. She has been instrumental in the development of the outpatient pain reducing protocol that we utilize at our center. She brings much enthusiasm and expertise to our team as PA director, involved in hiring, and training of PA and other members of the team.
