Outpatient Total Knee Replacement
1 in 5 Americans suffer from arthritis of the knee. Total knee replacement is the number one reason for hospitalization in America. Conservative options that can be considered include: physical therapy, steroid injections, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment, stem cell injections, or visco supplementation therapy. If these conservative treatment options fail and symptoms persist, surgical intervention may become necessary and a total knee replacement is a clinically proven treatment option with success rates greater than 90% at 15 years following surgery.
What You Need To Know
The OJRCA Method
Total knee replacement (also known as total knee arthroplasty) is a surgical procedure where the bones of the knee are resurfaced and replaced with implants. Typically, your surgeon will remove the damaged cartilage and bone from the surfaces at the ends of the femur, tibia, and patella. This amounts to a few millimeters of underlying bone. Then, your surgeon will position the metal implants that will replace the bone and secure them to the bone resurface typically with cement. Finally, a durable plastic insert will be placed between the metal pieces acting as “new cartilage” and allow movement without friction
